Happy Birthday IS

As cliched as it it, it takes a village of friends and family to help me run our soul food kitchen: my son and daughter remain instrumental with marketing as well as advice on vegan dishes; Miriam is key for marketing and IT wizardry; Sam also for IT, the hardcore stuff; Yoel, Dana and Itamar for overall business guidance and social media insights. And of course IS: my sous chef, accountant, social media photographer, shipping logistician, and waltz partner.

One of the more remarkable things about IS — and it would be funny if it weren’t so true — is that after so many years spent in the kitchen, she would prefer to be anywhere else but there. But there is is and has been, every step of the way.

So today, our soul food kitchen is closed except for her — which is also a bit of a joke, since the fatigue of being constantly around cooking has been so strong, that she prefers simple smoothies each day. No worries. I raise bananas and strawberries, homemade almond milk and cashews, avocados, ice, and pink ladies in her honor.

May life ahead of you be as smooth as the drink in your hand. L’chaim.
